COVID Comforts: Josih Hostetler

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing what the BMC board and staff are reading, streaming, cooking and playing.

Books:

War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence (By Ronan Farrow) This is a good read to understand the erosion of diplomacy and, by extension, the diminished peace efforts by the US government. While scary to think of military stepping into roles of diplomacy, it is a roadmap to where investment can be made in future administrations to the State Department to begin again the efforts that make toward peace, especially towards nuclear non-proliferation and de-escalation of regional conflict.

The Cookbook: a novel (By Cass Tell) This is a simple read, but a story about someone losing their most prized possessions only to find that there was a deeper story to their entire life.

Listening:

Themes and Variations: An Essay (By David Sedaris) Amazon/Audible This is a laugh riot and a quick listen if you have a half hour.

Color TV (Album by Dramarama) on Apple Music A new indie rock album by a great group!

Father of All… (Album by Green Day) I have been listing to music from groups that take me back to my Gen X roots… our time to embrace the craziness (what else is new?!).

Streaming:

Schitt’s Creek (on Netflix) This is such a fun show, and a touching look at a family that loses all of their possessions only to see what is important is each other and the people in the small town of Schitt’s Creek.

Star Trek: Discovery (on CBS All Access) This is a reimagined version of the classic genre, and a return to the storytelling that made the original so popular.

Cooking/Eating:

Flatbread Pizza – I have been experimenting with different sauces and cheeses; a stock and tomato paste really give a depth of flavor in your pizza sauce, and smoked provolone adds to your standard mozzarella in a wonderful way.

Anything in the cookbook I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence (By Amy Sedaris) which is also a very funny read!
