Updated: May 25, 2020

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing what the BMC board and staff are reading, streaming, cooking and playing.

Carol Wise, Executive Director

Books

Queer Theology: Beyond Apologetics by Linn Marie Tonstad (Cascade Books, 2018) - compact and impressive

Why? Explaining the Holocaust by Peter Hayes (W.W. Norton & Company, 2017) - one of the best books I’ve read to help understand how the Holocaust happened, why the Jews, why the Germans, and why the Allies failed to stop it.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel (Henry Holt & Company, 2009) - first book in a historical fiction trilogy about Thomas Cromwell.

Streaming

A Secret Love (Netflix) - lovely documentary about two older, pioneering lesbians as aging pushes them out of the closet.

Bosch (Prime) - who doesn’t love a good detective series?

Normal People (Hulu) - a very moving story about two young adults and their relationship

Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu) - based on the novel by Celeste Ng, the series exposes the fault lines of race and class.

Cooking

Chocolate Chip Cookies - using browned butter is the secret to a great cookie

Red Lentil Soup
