About/Welcome
Welcome to the new Coming Out Strong blog of Brethren Mennonite Council for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Interests (BMC). This blog is sponsored by the Kaleidoscope program of BMC and is focused on the perspectives of youth and young adults who identify with the BMC community (Brethren or Mennonite related and lgbtqa).
For more about BMC, you should go to the mothership and look around a bit. Coming Out Strong is named after a video recently released by BMC. You can view most of the video online and you can also order dvd copies for $5 from the BMC office. For more on this, check out the Coming Out Strong video page.
If you are new to the world of blogs and aren’t quite sure what this is all about, I’ll quote Wikipedia to help you get a little idea.
“A blog (short for web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and displayed in reverse chronological order.
Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.”
Here at Coming Out Strong we will include commentary and news on a range of topics that relate to BMC. Some of these will include: lgbtq issues, language, homophobia, the church, Mennonites, Brethren, politics, culture, faith, being young, privilege, current events, school, theology, humor, coming out, stories, and family.
If you are interested contributing some of your thoughts to the blog, please contact Kaleidoscope Coordinator Katie Hochstedler at kaleidoscope@bmclgbt.org.
This blog is generally moderated from the BMC office. We are usually here Monday through Friday, 9-5 CST, (unless we’re not). If you write a post or comment and it doesn’t show up promptly, it may be stuck in the moderation queue until we get a chance to check it. Hopefully this doesn’t prove too frustrating for folks. If you have questions, please contact Katie at 612.343.2060 or kaleidoscope@bmclgbt.org.
